Beauty & Fashion Tips: Style your Look!

This is a Guest blogger post by Sridhar Amanchy.

Looking gorgeous is a matter of knowing your body, knowing what to wear and how to wear right kind of clothes. Dressing up is an art and if you can master this art then you can be on top of the world. The important thing about dressing right is you should look slim and tall in whatever you wear, no matter what your weight is. Even fat women can look slim if they know the tricks of fashion. Learn how to camouflage your weight with proper dressing. Following are the tips that will make you look gorgeous, elegant and stunning!!   • Pick one hue Dressing head-to-toe in a single dark color, like navy or black, is the single best way to look like you've lost 10 pounds.

• Skip large patterns  Smaller patterns fool the eye and make for a more delicate look. And whatever you do, don't wear patterns on top and bottom -- that'll add 10 pounds.

• Slip on the right length skirt Stick to just-above-the-knee skirts that play off knees and elongate legs. Avoid a midcalf skirt, which draws attention to the widest part of your legs, making them look heavier.

• Ditch shorts Capris, on the other hand, are surprisingly slimming, especially if you stick to dark denim or black and wear ones that aren't too short or too long. They should end at the least-wide part of your calves, ideally a few inches above the ankle.

 • Wear a sexy tee V-neck and deep scoop-neck tees elongate the neck and make the torso appear longer by showing off your collarbone.

• Go vertical Thin vertical stripes on anything -- pants, shirts, skirts, dresses -- create the illusion of a longer, leaner body.

 • Slim down with color Hot summer hues like pink and yellow catch the eye and are good for body parts you want to play up. Pair them with black, brown or navy -- dark colors recede and are best for areas that you'd like to draw the eye away from.

• Pull out that A-line dress A gently flared A-line cut is universally flattering and hides large hips.

• Pick the perfect jeans Look for a pair that sits lower on your waist. And go for boot cut -- the slight flare fits over sandals and will give you longer, lankier legs.

• Sport three-inch heels High heels give you a thinner profile and silhouette.   • Avoid ankle-strap sandals The more of your leg and the top of your foot you show, the longer your leg line will appear.

• Pick a well-proportioned purse Petite women look sexiest with smaller bags, while large women look best with medium-size purses.

• Score face-slimming shades If your face is on the full side, wide rectangular-frame sunglasses give you a sleeker look.

   • Think long jewelry Long, skinny earrings and sleek pendant necklaces elongate and slim the face and body with their vertical lines.

• Wear bangles Skinny bangles or a bracelet-style watch make your arms look thinner by creating space around your wrist, which fools the eye, making you look slim.

• Pick the right part Opt for a side part -- a center part makes your face look round. A good rule of thumb to find the most flattering, face-slimming part: Use the arch of your eyebrow as a guide. Start the part above the arch and go back from there in a straight line.

• Skip bangs Or sweep them to the side if you have a round or square face. A bare forehead lengthens and slims the face.

 • Pull your hair back If your neck is on the short side, pulling hair up off your neck and shoulders makes the neck look longer and upper body appear thinner.

• Add volume Hair that lies too flat on the head makes a full face appear even bigger. A full or wavy style, on the other hand, minimizes a larger face.

• Do an updo Building extra height at the crown of your head narrows round features and makes your face seem thinner. For the simplest 'do ever, twist hair into a high knot and fasten with a pretty barrette.

SPA SAAVY ON POINT.

Many people are familiar with spas but for others it's a whole new experience. The number of spas and the wide variety of services available may seem intimidating at first, but a little knowledge goes a long way to ensure the experience you envision is what you actually end up with. Some of the most common concerns are, "how do i know if the place is any good? What do I need to do when I get there? What is it going to cost? Will it be worth it?" First, figure out where and when you can go and how much to spend, and how much time you have. Once all these have been answered, you sure know what to do. So, go ahead and indulge yourself in spa treatment, and see what all the hype is about.

THE TREATMENTS.

CHEMICAL PEEL
CLAIM: Your face will be left smooth and glowing.
PROS: Glycolic can stimulate collagen production to smooth fine lines, lactic acid can correct brown spots and salicylic acids prevent breakouts by cleaning out pores.
CONS: Burns are always a risk especially from peels with strong acids and low pH balance. Physicians need to closely monitor the procedure.

MICRODERMABRASION.
CLAIM: Pores to appear slimmer, fine lines, less noticeable.
PROS: While dark spots can indeed be lessened, the procedure won't get rid of wrinkles. Skin appearance does improve. The crystals remove dead skin cells that trap dirt.
CONS: The more clogged the skin, the coarser the tools need to be and that could lead to irritation later.

STEAMING EXTRACTION.
CLAIM: Steam opens the pores and loosens dirt trapped below. That makes extractions that follow less painful and helps oil absorbing masks penetrate the skin deeply.
PROS: The skin softens and is more elastic. Exfoliation and warm steam open the pores so extractions are easier to do with less risk of scaring.
CONS: Too much heat can cause irritation, dehydration and broken capillaries. Overly zealous extractions can push the fluid deeper and cause marks.

OXYGEN.
CLAIM: Oxygen hydrates the skin, making it look temporarily more dewy. It is particularly recommended for anyone with dry skin, smokers or frequent fliers.
PROS: Oxygen gives a blast of rosy glow. many of the facials contain a cocktail of vitamins and nutrients that can plump up the fine lines.
CONS: Got an oxygen gas chamber? That's what you'd really need for oxygen to actually penetrate the skin. Which means that results are more of a feel good sensation and actually not proven.

I hope you found this piece helpful.

Dressing to match for Various Occassions.

Whatever format the party takes, you would want your style to be right; you don’t want to either overdress or under-dress. If your aim is simply to blend with the crowd, then forget the fancy shoes and blazers. Go casual; try a fitted V-neck or a tidy graphic t-shirt, fitted jeans that are not too baggy and a pair of fresh trousers. Throw in a desert scarf for added effect. Other options are: T-shirt which you can pair with split jeans and worker boot; blue striped T-shirt, black wash skinny jeans which can go with navy loafers and premium loop scarf.

Here are the various kinds of parties you may attend and the style suited for each.

Black tie.

Dressing casual but letting the taste speak
A black tie invitation calls for formal attire. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates. ‘Formal’ usually means the same as black tie, but in some trendier cities, it could mean a black shirt, no tie with a tux. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates. A white tie or ultra-formal invitation requires men wear full dress, with white tie, vest, shirt. Women wear long gowns.

Black tie optional.
A black tie optional or black tie invite gives you the option of wearing a tuxedo or formal dress, but it should clue you into the formality of the event, meaning a dark suit and tie would be your other option. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.

Creative black tie.
Creative black tie leaves room for trendy interpretations of formal wear. He can go no more modern with a tuxedo, may ne a black shirt, no tie. She wears long or short dresses or evening separates. Sometimes, themed parties call for dress codes like variations of creative black tie. In that situation, you can have more fun with it, choosing a dressy look with a theme (for him, it could be a tuxedo with boots; for her, it could be a long dress paired with Southwestern style, silver belt and jewelry).

Semi-formal.
Semi formal or after five means that tuxes are not required nor are long dresses. An evening wedding (after 6pm) would still dictate dark suits for the man and a cocktail dress for the woman. Daytime semi-formal events mean a suit for him and appropriate short dress or dressy suit for her. Business formal is the same as semi-formal for him. For women, it suggests that women opt for more tailored dressy suits and dresses (nothing too slinky or sexy).

Cocktail attire.
Cocktail attire means short, elegant dress for her and dark suit for him.

Festive attire.
Festive attire is usually seen around the holidays, with the mood of the party being informal or semi-formal. For her, it means to choose looks with a bit of sparkle or holiday bent (i.e a beaded sweater with black trouser; a red silk blouse with a black skirt).

Dressy casual.
This calls for dress-up versions of casual looks. For him, it could be trousers and a sport coat. For her, a dressy trousers and a sport coat. For her, a dress trousers look is the perfect call. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts and other casual looks are not appropriate for dress y casual.

KNOW THE LIFESPAN OF YOUR BEAUTY MAKE-UP

Beauty products do have a life-span. That’s a generic fact. Chances are that blue eye shadow with the glimmer bits that you bought a couple of years ago has long expired. Here’s a quick guide on the shelf lives of typical beauty products.
Nail polish
Polish is a pretty product and can last up to two years, unless you wear it with fungal infection. Anytime your make-up items come into contact with an infection, they should be tossed immediately. So in the end, use common sense and if it smells funny or looks strange it should be tossed away.

Eye liner
For most experts, it is ideal to throw away liquid eye liner and mascara every three months or so. The only exception is if you have an eye infection; eye infections mean that you need to toss all eye make-up and start over again. And as for pencil eye liner, it can last up to 2 years, if properly stored and sharpened regularly.

Eye shadow.
Eye shadow may last up to three years. A dark eye shadow can double as eye liner. You’ll need a super flat eye liner brush for this. Get the brush a little damp and dab in dark eye shadow (black, brown or deep jewel-tones work great). Wiggle the brush into your lash line focusing on the space between your lashes, and then sweep the colour just above your lash line.

Foundation.
A water based foundation will last up to 12 months; oil-based will last up to 18 months. If your water-based foundation dries before its expiration date, simply add a few drops of alcohol-free toner and shake to mix it in. no need to do this to oil-based foundation because they contain oil, they will tend to separate. If your foundation has a pump then it will stay fresh longer, but if you are dabbing your fingers into a bottle everyday you should think of tossing your foundation make-up every 6-8 months. If you are prone to break outs and are using the dabbing method, you should toss your make-up no later than six months. But keep in mind that your foundation colour can change at least twice a year.
Beauty can only be a charm when properly handled.

Powder face make-up can last over a year, if there is no shiny build-up on the surface and you have not had any major skin irritations during use. As a general rule of thumb, if it smells funny or looks strange you should toss it.

Lipstick
Some experts conclude that, lipsticks can last 1-2 years. How true this is, calls for poll correspondence. For others, it can last up to 4 years. This also leaves to be desired. However, if you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer. If you want your lipstick to last longer during the day, shade in lips with lip liner before applying lipstick.

Mascara.
This product expires the fastest. Throw out after four months. If you don’t want your mascara to expire faster than its actual date, don’t dump the wand in and out. Doing this will only expose the product to drying air.
As a general rule of thumb, change out your make-up every six months. If there is ever a doubt about whether to keep it or toss it, you should always just throw it out. Finally, if you have switched to natural make-up make sure you give the products a regular check, since they could turn rancid quicker because of the lack of preservatives.

HOW TO BE YOURSELF WHILE DRESSING TO IMPRESS.

Quite simple way to appear at your best.
Never has the phrase “the clothes make the man” been more important than when dressing to impress. Unlike women, men never check out their own back view. If they did, they would realize those baggy jeans make them look as if they have short, stumpy legs and a sad, saggy backside. No woman is going t o find that attractive.
If you are the lanky type of brother, I tell you, you are lucky. Why? You’re a natural clothes horse, provided you avoid skin-tight garments like skinny jeans. The short/average dudes like me envy you, lol….
Gentlemen dressed well.

If you are aiming to impress, you need a well-cut pair of fitted jeans. If you have a nicely muscled backside, it will show it off. Even if your rear end is less than perfect, the right pair of nicely fitted jeans can do a lot to improve it.

Whatever fashion you choose, the most important thing is freshness. A daily shower goes without saying. Make sure your nails are nicely cut and clean. If you must hang on to that favorite T-shirt that’s past its best, wear it around the house and not when you go out for the evening, especially on a date! When collars and cuffs start fraying, it’s time to throw out those shirts and buy new ones. Dirty Reeboks or scuffed leather shoes will lose you marks, too.

The above tips go for underwear. If you’re lucky enough to get to the point of removing your clothing in a lady’s company, she will notice if you Y-fronts are stained, holey or saggy and she will care! A woman can be very forgiving of a man who has a poor fashion sense. But if his clothes say he doesn’t care about hygiene or is too miserly to replace old clothes, that’s a different matter altogether.

A bad boy look can still come with taste.
Don’t worry too much about whether you’re following the latest fashion trends. Just take a good look at yourself when you buy clothes- preferably from the back as well as the front! This is to make sure they don’t distort your body or make you look fatter/thinner/shorter than you really are. Then make sure you keep those clothes, and yourself, in good shape! Decide on whether your look needs sharpening up a little. One can never get away with wearing anything that’s thrown on in a rush. A single man has the habit of being his most misguided judge and lenient of self criticism.

As for shoes, a person may love those three straps, Velcro fastening sandals, but we must all be aware that there is a time and place for everything. With the sandals now firmly out of running, its worth mentioning that statistics suggest a woman’s eye goes straight for the foot. Women love shoes and can tell a lot about a person by what they are wearing. With this in mind it’s probably wise to take an extra minute when attempting to dress to impress in this area in order to carefully select the right shoes.

Sophisticated and smart is the best option in attire. Shoes are one thing, a watch is the next. These two products alone can stand the man apart from anyone else. They establish one’s identity, and are hallmarks of who a person is and what they are about. Omega, Frank Mueller, Rolex, Chris Aire, Cartier are all distinctions of class and they make a clear expression of a demand for quality. Don’t spend thousands but be sure to avoid classic mistakes and do not cheat by making a statement of how exquisite the fakes are in Thailand. Remember that it only takes one incident to ruin a reputation. Better to have nothing, than something that isn’t real. In addition, smell nice. You know what I mean!

Lastly, stick to what you are comfortable with and don’t look at the date as a great opportunity to try some new rough and ready wardrobe look. Believe me, people get the very wrong perception of what rough and ready is, nd as a result, it is a style left safely tucked away in someone else’s wardrobe attire. Above all, be courteous and be a gentleman always.

HOW YOU CAN LOOK SAVVY IN A SHEER DRESS.

Having to wear a sheer dress will give you that sexy look if you don't reveal to much as you can reveal some skin without looking so cheap and wear that sheer dress with elegance. S sheer dress gives a lot of potential. It can be chic, romantic, or even demure but sometimes it can be difficult to wear. Deciding how you should wear it can be very critical. In other to avoid a fashion disaster here are some tips to wear sheer.

Decide on how much skin you can expose, if you intend to show some.

Wearing a sheer dress does not require you to be revealing too much like cleavages and underwear. You can even wear it with just your arms exposed. Considering the occasion, sheer dress can be worn on formally too. Just make sure you make it look formal. For instance, wear a solid and simple cocktail dress or wear layers of different sheer dresses until you get the solid look of the garments. The versatility of sheer fabrics should make a sheer dress a wardrobe staple.

The underwear you wear under this transparent fabric is important as it should match with the colour of your clothing.

Create a romantic look by wearing a sheer dress over one or more sheer layers. Choose layers in the same colour family for added richness. Choose a sheer dress that hangs loosely about your frame. Form fitting sheer dresses do not look right.

Pair a sheer dress with a lace top. The Combination of fabrics can provide enough coverage to appear sexy without revealing too much. A sheer dress can be layered over a matching camisole and slip or good tailor can make a liner for you to wear under the sheer fabric.

FASHION FACTS…

Style is an expression of you through clothes. No matter how open minded we may seem, the truth is when we see someone dressed to the nines, we automatically pay him or her more respect than someone else who is carelessly dressed. Finances don’t necessarily determine whether or not a person is stylish, style can be achieved on a low budget as well, and it all depends on the person. Yes, money makes a difference in the quality of the clothes but make no mistake; there are a lot of nouveau riche out there who think style equals the Burberry signature check look from head to toe. They are by no means comparable to those who understand what style is and dress accordingly.

Going Short This Season.

Christmas is fast fast approaching. The yuletide waves are telling fast. December is nigh. With the heat this season, the short dresses are coming in strong and almost every fashionable woman has a handful of these gowns in her wardrobe.

Be it ankara, woodin or other woolen fabric, the gown would always come out well. Some come in as ready-made clothes, while some fashionable women still get the indigenous fabrics. Though many fat women would complain that they dare not wear these dresses, many women of plus size do and they look great in those clothes. It all depends on the level of creativity. So, how best can a woman achieve an exquisite look with these dresses?

The TIPS
* Make sure you put on high heeled shoes or wedges if you are of average height. Those heels can add to your elegant looks. The tall women can go for their ususal flat sole.

* If yous is haute couture (ready-made), make sure the dividing line starts from the navel and the gathers flow down to the knees. By so doing, you get your desired look and fit.

New Season, New Hands, New Look.

As the Ember months wear in, some notes are to be taken seriously. This post is particularly referring to all women. Your hands are engaged in all daily activities and are the most visible parts of your body. As such, they need the same amount of care you give to your face. Hands can be kept smooth by adding about a teaspoonful of almond oil to soapy water while washing dishes.

Ex foliating with a solution made of sea salt and water will also rid your hands of dead cells. Apply the solution to your hands with the aid of a disused toothbrush twice a week; wash off every application after some minutes with warm water.

Get a cup of warm milk and soak your hands in it for about five minutes. This will hydrate your skin and strengthen your nails. The calcium in the milk makes the nails stronger and the abundant lactic acid (which is a natural alpha hydroxyl acid) in it helps in faster regeneration of the new skin cells.

Give you lips that silk look...
The shade of lipstick on your lips goes a long way in defining your beauty and elegance. The wrong colour will either make you appear drab or too loud. It is not also advisable to buy colours you find on celebrities or on photo models because what works for them may spell doom for you.

To achieve great lips this new season, your make-up kit must possess the following lips essentials: lip balm, lip liner, lip gloss, lipstick, eye shadow/eyebrow liner - these you can apply to the center of your lips to plum them up. If you have a red lipstick that is too bright for your colour, mix it with a little brown shade.

Your eyebrows...
For neatly defined brows, you will need the following items: baby toothbrush, clean mascara wand, stringent, waxing kit, cotton muslin, tweezers, eye shadow.

Hope you found this drop a handful. Your comments are always welcome.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE PLACE OF HANDBAGS AS FASHION ACCESSORIES.

Bags have been used since prehistoric times, and in the Bible, Judas Iscariot was described as a purse carrier. Over the centuries, bags have gained a more unique and fashionable appeal, and are no longer only used for practical purposes: they have now assumed the role of a fashion accessory. Designers all over the world such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Christian Dior, Chanel, Burberry et al, make it their ultimate goal to design A WIDE VARIETY OF BAGS, SO THAT EACH WOMAN can have a bag that she can call her own.

Women always come prepared, if you are a man and you are lucky enough to have a wife, or a girlfriend, rest assured that of ever a drink spills on you, your spouse will most probably be able to save the day by having something useful in her bag to help you out.

Our motherland is rich not only in oil, but also in the sophistication of bags that our elite carry. Some carry handbags that leave you bewildered and wanting the same, while others carry handbags that make you wonder why they bothered, it all has to do with taste, and a good fashion sense. Do you colour coordinate your bag and your outfit? Or are you just carrying handbag because you want to show it off? Those excused from the fashion judgment are those who are not able to afford expensive and fashionable bags.

We are usually attached to our bags, losing it or having it stolen always bring tears to one’s eyes, whether you are bold enough to admit it or not, the reason being the valuable and sometimes irreplaceable items that it contains. It all depends actually, sometimes the bag is more valuable than its content, and other times, its contents are more cherished. Either way, it hurts! A shout out and my deepest condolences to all those who have lost a bag, either by your own carelessness, or by theft, it saddens one’s heart no matter what.

Another thing about these treasured accessories is that they may cost an arm and a leg, but once you acquire them, they are yours to keep forever. That is the difference between men and handbags, once you have and claim your handbag it will never leave you but with men (# clears throat) you can never be too sure.
My advice: treat your handbags with respect, do not be careless, do not turn your back and neglect it for a second. No, the person sitting next to you is not your friend, do not trust anyone with your bag, whether it is made of plastic, a “Ghana-must-go-bag” or a designer bag, because no amount of tears may ever bring it back.

FASHION FACTS…

For some people, a dress is a just a dress. Well, I say a capital NO. knowing the right dress and silhouette will not only help you choose one quickly at the store, it also helps you stay fashion savvy. A sheath dress is not the same as a shirt or a wrap dress.

FASHION FACTS…

Sexy is all about surprises, a deceptively simple dress from the front can be a showstopper in the back. Open backs, lace-up backs, great dress trains all make for dramatic effects. And it’s about choosing more original ways to express your sensuality. So instead of going for short and revealing outfits, opt for sophisticated, demure pieces which forces people to give you a second look like some of the renowned celebs have done.

MEN LOVE ACCESSORIES TOO...

No doubt, most men will cringe at this. Its just the truth. There comes a time and a season when you want to give your wardrobe a much needed make over. Alas, your bank account may not be in agreement with this. That is the best way yo do this for so much less? Investing in accessories! The little effort to include them in your wears goes such a long way. More to the point, no look is actually complete without accessories. For ages, men have though that the only important accessory is the watch. Think again. This is the more fashionable side to the 21st century and you're in it so you have to look the part. You need to pay attention to those extras that give your look that attention grabbing finesse.

Jack Nickolson once said, “with my sunglasses on, I’m Jack Nickolson, without them I’m fat and 60.” If you are a movie freak like myself you should know Jack Nickolson. He's a legend, and if he’s accesorising, then you to should.
Accessories stand for a lot of things. Fine, they stand for functionality that is when you have your watch to tell the time or a a belt to hold up your pants. They also, without a a doubt, give your outfit an edge. A bit of bling, a luxurious, statement watch piece would definitely make you stand out more. You can accesorise with just a bout everything these days, from your cuff-links to your phone. Accessories can also help you out of a style rut.

Are you having a bad hair day or you’ve recently been befallen by the sometimes unavoidable reality of balding? A snazzy trilby hat can come to your rescue. Or do you want to stand out at that interview and not look just like everybody else? Some arresting pocket squares and cuff links could just be what you need.

The Belt Revolution.
Belts are about the most basic thing in every ensemble. Some cant do without them, like me. But I can wager you haven’t ever given much thought to what holds your pants up. Well there’s a plethora of belts out there these days and getting different types would be great for your wardrobe. Keep in mind, belts do come in other colour aside black and brown but there is a time and place to use them and its not just the boardroom, obviously. Also, to make a statement with your belt, you need to wear one that is of high quality. If its not premium leather it is a no-go.

Making out with Rings.
If you’re married, your wedding band doesn’t count as an accessory so you are not excused from this! Sure you may balk wearing more than one ring. I personally don't subscribe to a man wearing a ring but either way, it is a great statement piece. If you are married, you can still rock a ring on the other hand or it could be on the same finger as your wedding band. This is a little bit risque I know and the average married man is probably conservative and wouldn't try this. But if you haven't walked down the aisle, let rip your inner Pride and rock that ring!

Alexa Chung Says She Loves Jumpsuit.

Alexa Chung claims she likes wearing jumpsuits, even though she gets called a "man mechanic" in them. I bet you'll laugh to this.

The British TV presenter is known for her vintage-inspired, quirky style, and has become one of the most copied women when it comes to creating a cool-yet-practical aesthetic.

Alexa loves to wear jumpsuits, and doesn't understand why people dislike the versatile attire.

"Most people don't get the jumpsuit thing. They don't understand why you'd want to look like a man mechanic," she told the Kyle and Jackie O radio show. "I think it has its own charm, and I also think it's a good test of how into fashion people are. It's deliberately ugly I think."

Alexa is a style icon to many women. The stunning star feels a certain amount of pressure when it comes to the coveted label.

"I mean, it depends which day it is. Sometimes I think about the bigger picture and sometimes I think about, 'I need to get milk,' and I don't care what I'm wearing. It's annoying because sometimes I haven't washed my hair or I'm a bit hungover. Maybe I'm on the walk of shame, and then they're taking pictures. You can't really describe the context to people.

"Thankfully I rarely dress like a sl*t," she laughed. "There is a bit of pressure. Once you've been labelled something, you have to try and keep it coming."

Alexa regularly gets sent designer gear from a range of fashion houses. The 27-year-old star has revealed she regularly looked up to Kate Moss, and has glad her career has seen some of the success Kate has achieved.

"They're very generous," she said of the gifts from fashion houses.

"I used to be a model with Storm, and they look after Kate Moss, so when I was a teenager I used to see all these bags of gifts coming in for Kate Moss and I was so jealous. It's really nice to get things now."
