Barely A few days After Aso Rock Face-off, Jonathan, Amaechi Bury Riff, Embrace In Public.

Barely 72 hours after security personnel stopped Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State from approaching President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, both men embraced publicly yesterday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The embrace took place at the Port-Harcourt International Airport when Jonathan was returning from his home state of Bayelsa where he commissioned a hospital facility.

Presidential Villa operatives had, on Wednesday, blocked Amaechi from getting to Jonathan  at the seat of power during a dinner, an action that was interpreted in many quarters as stemming from the crisis in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

Pictures & Video from Obama & Family Trip To Former Slaving Port In Senegal

President Barack Obama has spent the afternoon touring a Senegalese island where Africans were shipped across the Atlantic into slavery and he called the visit a 'very powerful moment.' Obama says visiting Goree Island Thursday with his family helps them fully appreciate the magnitude of the slave trade. They toured the museum at the Maison des Esclaves where slaves were gathered before going through the 'Door of No Return' and being forced onto ships bound for North America. Obama also said that, as an African American and an African-American president, the trip gaves him even greater motivation to stand up for human rights around the world, and the visit came just hours after he clashed with his Senegalese hosts over gay rights. He said the island is a reminder of what happens when civil rights are not protected.
How touching! I hope to visit this place with my family as well!

Commercial Oil Capacity Discovered in Lagos.

LAGOS—Nigeria's commercial capital, LAGOS, is on the verge of joining the country's oil-producing states with the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities in the coastal state.
Yesterday, Afren Plc and its partner, Lekoil Limited, announced significant oil discovery offshore Dahomey Basin in Lagos, according to the London Stock Exchange.

In separate announcements, the partners said they discovered a significant light oil accumulation based on the results of drilling and wire line logs from a high impact Ogo-1 well, located on the Oil Prospecting Licence, OPL 310 offshore Nigeria.
Afren is optimistic that the discovery is likely to be significantly higher than the anticipated 78 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe), which encourages search to further high potential zones.
The discovery is subject to the authentication of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), which is expected in two weeks.
If certified and the partners produce the first barrel of oil, Lagos will become the 11th oil producing state in Nigeria, a club Anambra State joined recently. It will also boost the economy of Lagos, which currently generates about N29 billion internally every month.
The other oil producing states are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Edo and Cross River.
Geological studies indicate that the Dahomey Basin is a combination of inland/coastal/offshore basin that cuts across some West African countries including Lagos, Nigeria as well as Southeastern Ghana, Togo and the Republic of Benin.
The basin is said to be separated from the Niger Delta by a surface basement popularly called the Okitipupa Ridge.
"The Ogo-1 well has been drilled to a total measured depth of 10,518 ft (10,402 ft true vertical depth sub sea), and has encountered a gross hydrocarbon section of 524 ft, with 216 ft of net stacked pay.
"The well was targeting 78 mmboe of gross P50 prospective resources, but based on evidence to date, targeted resources are likely to be significantly in excess of previous estimates," Afren said in a statement made available to Vanguard.
The company added that "further evaluation using wire line log analysis is currently underway prior to extending the well to a total measured depth of 11,800 ft (11,684 ft true vertical depth sub sea) to target further high potential zones."
DPR yet to authenticate discovery
However, speaking with Vanguard on phone, the DPR said authentication of the discovery could only come after side-tracking (ST) verifications.

OPL 310—Map showing the location of OPL 310 , along the Dahomey Basin.
A top management source in the upstream unit of the regulatory agency, said: "As far as we are concerned, the discovery for now is very speculative. The side track will indicate whether the resource they have found is actually crude, and this verification takes about two weeks. Thereafter, the company will communicate the tracking result to us, after which we will certify the discovery."
Partners plan side track
Ahead of the planned ST, Afren expressed confidence that estimated reserves of about 124 mmboe have a better than 50 per cent, P50, chance of being technically and economically producible.
"Partners intend to drill a planned side-track, Ogo-1 ST, which will test a new play of stratigraphically trapped sediments that pinch-out onto the basement high targeting 124 mmboe of gross P50 prospective resources," it confirmed in the statement.
Commenting, the Chief Executive of Afren, Mr. Osman Shahenshah, said: "The discovery of oil in the Ogo-1 well opens up a new oil basin in an under-explored region and represents a possible extension of the West African Transform Margin.
"Based on evidence to date, targeted resources are likely to be significantly in excess of previous estimates, with some high-potential zones still to be drilled. We look forward to working with our partners to realise the full potential of Ogo 1 and our additional prospects on the licence.
"The Ogo-1 exploration success follows a series of recent discoveries, Okoro Field Extension, Ebok North Fault Block and Okwok in Nigeria and Simrit-2 and Simrit-3 on the Ain Sifni Block in the Kurdistan region of Iraq."
On his part, Lekoil CEO, Mr. Lekan Akinyanmi, said: "The discovery of oil in the Ogo-1 well opens up a new oil basin in an under-explored region and represents a possible extension of the Cretaceous play along the West African Transform Margin. The discovery is a clear validation of Lekoil's technical analysis and of our extensive studies on the Dahomey Basin.
"Results to date indicate that the discovered resources could be significantly in excess of P50 estimates prior to drilling. While Lekoil notes these results are preliminary, we believe there exists substantial scope for upward revisions to the data announced today (Wednesday) as drilling and interpretation continues.
"We look forward to working with our partners to realise the full potential of Ogo and the additional prospects on the licence."

FOOTNOTE:
If true, i think this will come as a goodnews considering the already bolstered profile Lagos already has. My only concern perhaps is the ecological impact which comes along with such operational capacity, knowing well how poor we are as a nation at handling even the slightest ecological challenge.

Etisalat BIS Now Capped. Confirmed!

I think Etisalat Nigeria just shot themselves on the foot. Earlier today, i recieved a sms from them that i have used up the allocated BB10 data bundle allotted to me. The sms however ended by suggesting i subscribe to a data plan to keep enjoying the service. What ever that implies, leaves a lot to be desired. To be this, I was taken aback, I must confess; i am a heavy data user. Right after the sms, my BIS came to a halt. Email messages stopped, could not ping and browse.

After several failed attempts at reaching to a customer rep, i was made to understand i had crossed the said allotted bandwidth. According to the information, the development is quite recent and is not even enlisted on their website. The situation automatically implies that, every BIS package from the Etisalat network has been capped and is no longer unlimited as was the case. I however expressed my disappointment to the lady that attended to me, owning to the fact that, before such developments are staked and throwing at the customers, adequate awareness ought to be made. I find it offensive to live in the guise of silly changes of that nature. My loyalty and customership has just been jettisoned.

In all, it is quite easy to blame this change on the ample clamps the blackberry 10 series have with them, but the network providers are wrong to assume same platforms over all blackberry devices. For Etisalat, i believe they will lose a handful of loyal subscribers that were drawn to them all because they provided unlimited blackberry service in the true sense of the word.

Truth or Dare: Patience Jonathan's Office Is Inseparable From The Presidency?

First Lady Patience Jonathan has slammed those describing her office as unconstitutionally, saying it cannot be separated from the Presidency.

The first lady, through her media aide, Ayo Oshinlu, was yesterday reacting to a newspaper editorial that criticised her for speaking from a podium with the nation’s official seal two years ago.According to Mrs Jonathan, her office, just like American First Lady Michelle Obama’s, derives from the Presidency and has responsibilities to discharge, whether ceremonial or official, in order to “smoothen the operations of the president and the Presidency”.

Biology: New Layer Discovered In The Cornea

But do not be deceived by its thinness, it is actually very strong and can withstand two bars of pressure. It is named DUA’S LAYER, and that is because it was discovered by PROFESSOR HARMINDER S. DUA, an Indian researcher and his team at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and the news was released hours ago. The new layer was first mentioned in May 2013 in the journal, Ophthalmology.

Soyinka- The Village Mourners. A Must-read !

Nigerians who are old enough will surely recall the source of the above title. For others, I ought to narrate its origin. Fortunately, early this year, I delivered a lecture at the University of Ibadan, where I made a passing reference to the true owners of that copyright. Here is the relevant section:

“At the passing of a short-lived dictator, his successor decreed two weeks of mourning, two weeks during which the nation went into a coma. Even the television and radio stations closed down – nothing but martial and funereal music was played, while churches and mosques took over the abandoned air-waves to drown the nation in suras and canticles of lachrymose outpouring. A very sharp group quickly formed something that was called the National Mourners Association – clever lot! While the nation was quarantined and bogged down in the Fun of lamentation, they were touring the world, sponsored by government, to take the gospel of anguish to every corner of the world that boasted a Nigerian diplomatic mission.”

What You don't know about the differences between Cologne and Perfume.

I know a lot of people do not know the difference between these two seemingly unique items that a lot of us make use of everyday. It is this awareness that led me into extensive researches that led to this write up.

Cologne is a form of fragrance just like perfumes. Most of the people now a day are familiar with perfumes and colognes however, both the things are quite different from each other. Perfumes existed in ancient times also but have now transformed into a better and pleasant thing but cologne did not exist in ancient times. First cologne was introduced in 1709.

Bible-burning Egyptian Cleric Jailed For 11 Years.

CAIRO (Reuters) -A Cairo court sentenced an Egyptian Muslim preacher to 11 years in jail for blasphemy on Sunday for burning a Bible during a protest last year outside the U.S. embassy.

Convictions for insulting Islam are common in Egypt, ruled by Islamists after the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, but more rare for cases involving the minority Christian faith.

Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud, known as Abu Islam, who runs his own religious television channel, led a demonstration in September against a U.S.-made anti-Islam video posted on the Internet.

His son was sentenced to eight years in jail for the same offence. Both will remain at liberty pending appeal.

Footnote:
It makes no sense burning the bible or quran. They only make more markets for the printers and sellers of the books. It is like when MKO Abiola was alleged to have sunk a whole ship-load of bible into the sea. Did that make bible unavailable in Nigeria? It is rubbish.

Woman Arrested With Cocaine Implanted INSIDE Her Breasts [PHOTO]

A drugs mule has been busted trying to smuggle almost two kilos of cocaine into Spain in her breasts.

Cruel traffickers forced the 28-year-old Panamanian woman to undergo surgery where several bags of the Class A drug were inserted beneath her skin – much like a breast implant.
She was stopped earlier this month at Barcelona's El Prat airport, following a flight on Colombia's Avianca airline, after police thought she was 'acting funny'.

During a search, they found a blood soaked bandage covering her chest – which she admitted resulted from the operation to introduce the packets of drugs into her body.

She was rushed to a medical centre in the city, where doctors removed 1.8 kilos of cocaine – worth about £240,000- in a number of sealed bags.
A police source told the Vozpópuli news website that herarrest most likely saved her life, as she may not have survived much longer with such quantities of the substance in her body.
He said: 'She was in a very bad state when she arrived. She said she was not in any pain but the wounds looked very bad.'

It was, he added, the first time officers had ever seen drugs hidden inside the breasts of a woman.

Odd world, eh! The things people can do for money.

Nigerians Have No Confidence In Police – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said the high level of indiscipline and unmerited promotion to certain ranks in the police had made many Nigerians to lose confidence in the force.

Jonathan said this in Abuja while inaugurating the Police Service Commission, PSC, headed by former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro.

Other PSC members are Alhaji Mohammed Yakubu, Justice Olufunmilola Oyinlola Adekeye, Hajia Aisha Larai Tukur, Mrs. Comfort Obi and Dr. Tony Ayim.

Utomi: Nigerian Politicians More Interested In Women

Nigeria’s Professor of Political Economy and Management, Professor Pat Utomi, has slammed the country’s politicians for undermining the country’s democracy, saying they prefer women than they genuinely desire the development of the nation.

According to Prof. Utomi, the present crop of politicians in the country are more interested in sleeping with women than they are concerned about the country’s growth and progress when compared with the likes of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

They Sold Out: Those Who Signed-Away June 12, 1993 Victory To Military Government.

The big Nigerian ‘patriots’ who also signed the remarkable document that nailed the coffin of June 12 result include Alhaji Adamu Ciroma who has served as Finance and Agriculture Minister. In fact, his wife has served as Women Affairs Minister under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. She has been Woman Leader of the ruling PDP and last month, she was appointed Managing Director of the Lokoja-based Nigeria Inland Water Ways Authority (NIWA).

Chief Tony Anenih who was in 1993 Chairman of the victorious Party, the SDP, served in Obasanjo government in various capacities including Minister of Works and Housing, Chairman of the ruling PDP’s Board of Trustees for the second time and Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the second time too.

Sen Owie: June 12 Annulment Was Payment For Abiola’s Evil Deeds

Former member of the House of Representatives, former Senate Chief Whip and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rowland Stephen Owie says the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election was a divine recompense for Abiola’s alleged past political misdeeds.

What is your perspective on the June 12, 1993 election?

When people talk about June 12, June 12; June 12 has no meaning. June 12 is the repayment of evil for MKO Abiola.
Whatever you sow, you reap. I said about four years ago that if Abiola had been president he would have been dead.

You think so?

Yes, let me tell you. Before anyone can say that the annulment was evil they should answer four questions. Number one, who was that politician that brought what was called the Maroko land deal to limelight?

Who was that politician who used the Maroko land deal as an albatross on the neck of Chief Obafemi Awolowo? Who is that Nigerian or group of Nigerians who went to Obasanjo and connived with him and removed the Electoral College act from the decree of 1978?

Still on JUNE 12: Two-party System Is The Best For Nigeria. Opinion!

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on House Services and Special Duties, Ipoola Omisoore, has said that the multi-party system adopted by the nation was detrimental to its democracy.

Mr. Omisoore said in Lagos on Tuesday that a two-party system was best for the country.

Lagos State is preparing to mark the 20th anniversary of the June 12 1993 Presidential election, conducted under a two-party system.

The 1993 election was believed to have been won by the late Moshood Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who contested against a candidate of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

Today is World Day Against Child Labour

While toady's date- June 12 may mean different things to different people, Every year on June 12 the World Day Against Child Labor is observed to raise awareness of the plight of child laborers world- wide. Hundreds of millions of girls and boys around the world are affected.  Child labor is a problem in both
developing and industrialized countries.

The World Day Against Child Labor is a global observance and not a public holiday.

Child labor is especially rampant in many developing countries - but even in industrialized nations many children are forced to work. According to UNICEF, children in the United States “are employed in agriculture, a high proportion of them from immigrant or ethnic-minority families.” There have also been a number of incidents of westerns companies exploiting child laborers in developing countries to save production costs.

In 2011, there were an estimated 215 million child laborers in the world - 115 million of which were involved in hazardous work. To combat child labor around the world the International Labour Organization (ILO) initiated theWorld Day Against Child Labor in 2002.

Pictures From The "Virginity March" 2013 In Ibadan

The March which was organized by ‘Mine teenage ministry’ was meant for teens and young adults in Ibadan. It started around 10am on Saturday the 8th of June with a short seminar on the importance on keeping ones virginity and staying ’undefiled’ (which include kissing and smooching o. lol) and ways to actualizing this. Later all participants took to the street with the police and other paramilitary guys posing as security. The train proceeded to Challenge before turning back to their starting point at Ostrich Bakery at Ring Road Ibadan.

One thing we notice is that the march was full of ‘teenagers’! Does this mean that its hard to get virgins after the teenage years?

June 12 Annulment: How Has Nigeria Fared?

This is a guest blog feature by Tope Orekoya.

#ThrowbackTuesday Reuben Abati On Dame Patience In 2010

Dame Patience, our president’s darling wife

The Guardian Thursday, 27th Aug 2010

Opinion – By Reuben Abati

DEMOCRACY is readily associated with freedom: the freedom to be free in many respects and increasingly in Nigeria, many of our compatriots, particularly persons in positions of privilege and authority confuse this with the right to be disagreeable. The sober truth is that democracy is about rights and responsibilities, a democratic dispensation therefore cannot be a licence for disagreeable conduct as a norm; just as the possession of power in any form does not guarantee the right to be reckless or to ignore the etiquette required of office holders. Anyone in the corridors of power, either by chance or right, or appointment, is expected to behave decorously.

INEC To Start Distributing Permanent Voters’ Card

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it would soon start the distribution of permanent voters’ card nationwide ahead of the 2015 general elections. The permanent cards will replace the temporary voters’ card issued during the last elections in 2011.

The Federal Executive Council had approved the INEC budget for the printing of the permanent cards.

Video: Soyinka - June 12 Is Democracy Day, May 29 Is Fake

Nobel Laurent, Professor Wole Soyinka, has affirmed that June 12 and not May 29 should be marked as Nigeria’s democracy day.

Speaking at a forum in Lagos over the weekend, Prof Soyinka described the May 29 celebration by federal government as ‘fake’, saying that “June 12 is the real democracy day.”

He also made jest of his ‘grounded plane and helicopter’ ahead of a planned flight to celebrate June 12 abroad.

Nigeria has celebrated the return of civil rule on 29th of May, since 1999 when the newly elected President Olusegun Obasanjo, was sworn in after over 30 years of military rule. The day was tagged, Democracy Day.

June 12 is the date renowned for Nigeria’s most credible, free and fair election in 1993 when late MKO Abiola was elected President.

A breakdown of the current figures showed that while subsidy arrears to be paid to major marketers, including Total Nigeria Limited, Oando Nigeria Plc, Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc and Conoil Nigeria Plc amounted to N100bn, that of independent marketers amounted to N70bn.

FG Set-up Panel To Investigate Power Failure.

Abuja – The Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, in Abuja on Monday inaugurated a 13-member Technical Investigative Panel to articulate ways of mitigating constant system collapse in the power sector.

The members of the panel include Fatai Olapade, Chairman; A. Adebisi, Secretary; as well as Sanusi Garba, Sam Amadi,
R. Dagogo-jack, and J. Ognonna.

Others are Kingsley Achefe, O. Ekpo, James Olotu, Mike Uzoigwe, Chris Akamnonu, Don Priestman, and Kunle Olubiyo, President of Network for Energy Reforms.

Nebo said that the panel would determine the immediate and remote causes of the system failures and review all system collapses which occurred since January.

He urged the panel to review the performance and effectiveness of the grid’s protection system in the period under review.

The panel is also expected to recommend measures to further strengthen the protection mechanism and to consider any other system collapse related issues in the sector, Nebo said.

He gave the panel two weeks to submit its report and warned that the ministry would not tolerate any excuse on failure to carry out the assignment.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Power, Hajia Zainab Kuchi, urged members of the panel to be `bold and innovative’ in their investigation.

She called on the panel to get results that would be permanent to solve the problems of power in the country.

Responding on behalf of members of the panel, Olapade said they would submit the report within the specified period. (NAN)

Sony PS4 Launched.

Here is the ps4

"It is a design that is sleek and visually impactful wherever it is placed," said Andy House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment said during the reveal. And that's probably true, or at least, it's fair to say that the PS4 isn't any more obtrusive than the PS3 was. But it still looks a bit bulky at first glance, like an onyx coffee table book that you keep propped up by your television.

If anything, it seems to take up even more of a footprint than the PS3, although it's hard to say based on the brief glimpse we got of the console on the stage. Maybe more fair to say that it looks like an evil Wii, or a more genteel 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith.

For the record

I confess to feeling inspired with every visit to this institution that shaped my perception of life and grounded my entire intellectual development. This intellectual development is not only a debt I owe to my teachers who have formed me but a challenge to me to go out there and influence society for the benefit of those to come. For this, I must say thank you! I thank my teachers, of the academic, the moral and even the political, who showed me the virtues of honesty and commitment to serving humanity. And for the students who consider me a model worthy of their time and regard today, my gratitude to you is as large as our great institution. Ahmadu Bello University is an institution with a weight of history that challenges us to do justice to whatever comes our way. Our diversity in this prestigious institution, across ethnicities, religions and regions, stimulated by remainders of the legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, after whom our institution is named, instills a pan-Nigerian spirit in us such that we end up as tolerant and understanding wherever we find ourselves in private and public engagements. You must consider yourselves lucky for being a part of these distinguished Nigerians!

Feature: JUNE 12th, MKO ABIOLA, SUSAN RICE AND A CUP OF TEA By Femi Fani-Kayode.

Ambassador Susan Rice is the American Ambassador to the United Nations. Her long-standing aspiration of becoming the Secretary of State for her country was dashed when the Republicans in the Senate started sharpening their knives in anticipation of her formal nomination for that position by President Barak Obama.

Sensing that her nomination would not scale through the Senate and that she would not be confirmed as Secretary of State due to the role she played in the cover up of the Benghazi affair in which the American Ambassador to Libya and three other American citizens were murdered by a group of islamist terrorists, her nomination was withdrawn.

In lieu of Secretary of State, President Obama has now nominated her for the position of National Security Advisor which is a job that does not require Senate approval or confirmation. I wish Susan Rice well in her new assignment but I am constrained to ask the following questions. What did she put in the tea that she served to Chief MKO Abiola on July 8th 1998 just before he died? She was one of the last people that saw him alive, she served him some tea, he coughed violently and one hour later he died. What was in the tea? Was it Abuja ''green tea'' or Earl Grey or Liptons?

Can someone please ask Susan Rice what her role was in the death of MKO Abiola? Who sent her to do the job and who was she working for? At that time she was Assistant Secretary of State for America in President Bill Clinton's government. Was she acting on his direct instructions or simply on the instructions of her boss at the CIA?

Chief MKO Abiola was the winner of Nigeria's freest and fairest elections. That election took place on June 12th 1993. The following day it was annuled by General Ibrahim Babangida. Shortly after that General Babangida was compelled to ''step aside'' and hand over power to Chief Ernest Shonekan. He also left General Sani Abacha behind to be Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Defence.

A few months later General Abacha toppled the Interim National Government of Chief Ernest Shonekan and seized power for himself. Abiola was arrested and detained. He was never granted his freedom again. Four years later Abacha himself was murdered by forces that are yet to be identified and General Abdulsalami Abubakar took power. Exactly 30 days after Abacha was killed, those same forces that killed him murdered Abiola as well in an attempt to ''balance the equation''.

These are the facts and those are the sequence of events. One thing is self-evident and cannot be denied- whichever side of the divide one may have been on in the June 12th saga, certain questions must be answered. Those questions are as follows. Who killed MKO Abiola? Who killed Sani Abacha? What role, if any, did the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar and his National Security Advisor, General Abdullahi Mohammed play in the murder of both Abacha and Abiola? What role, if any, did the CIA play and exactly what transpired in the room when Susan Rice, Ambassador Pickering and two other American government officials met with Abiola on the very day that he was meant to be released. Instead of being released on that day he was murdered.

Whose call was that and why did it have to happen? Was it in an attempt to pave the way for an Obasanjo Presidency one year later? Could General Olusegun Obasanjo have been elected Presidsent if Abiola had lived and if he had insisted on claiming his mandate? What was Babangida's role in this whole matter and was he in any way aware of or involved in the making of these crucial decisions?

The Nigerian people have a right to know the truth and it is about time that the few that have wielded power in this country for the last five decades appreciated the fact that they cannot sweep things under the carpet forever and that one day, no matter how long it takes, they will be held accountable by the Nigerian people for the secret choices and decisions that they made.

The truth is that until these questions are answered and justice is done Nigeria will not know peace and will not make any progress. It is a spiritual thing. The fact remains that had it not been for Abiola's great sacrifice and his gallant refusal to bow before the Nigerian military and give up his 1993 Presidential mandate we would not have democracy in Nigeria today. We should do our best to ask the relevant questions, demand the appropiate answers and unearth the bitter truth. We owe MKO Abiola, his wife Kudirat (who was also murdered) and all the other June 12th footsoldiers and martyrs that much.

May God give us leaders that have a conscience that that truly respect and fear Him. May Chief MKO Abiola's soul continue to rest in peace.

Really? FG Plans Housing Scheme For Nigerians Abroad

THE Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) is working out modalities to roll out a diaspora product to assist Nigerians living abroad own homes in Nigeria.

Managing Director of the bank, Gimba Ya’u Kumo, who disclosed this at the fourth Nigeria Development Finance Forum in Washington DC, United States (US), said the product had become necessary, given the large number of Nigerians in the diaspora who wished to own homes in Nigeria and also as a means of reducing the housing deficit in the country.

“We realized that about 17 million Nigerians are living outside the country and most of them have plans to have houses and they have not been able to do so.

“We understand that over the years, people, who have been remitting money for the building or buying of a house have not been getting good results. Stories have followed this money.

“What we are trying to do is that by the time we develop the diaspora mortgage model, it will be a model whereby Nigerians living abroad who want to buy houses can resort to FMBN and, at the end of the day, if they do not take the mortgage, they can get refund of their money with interest,” he said.

Former NADECO Chieftain, Wahab Dosumu Is Dead

Former NADECO and Alliance for Democracy chieftain, Senator Wahab Dosumu is dead.

Vanguard gathered that he died in United States, Sunday.

Remarks:
NADECO huh? How time flies, I remember those days when being a NADECO member commanded the status of a selfless Patriot. Who'd forget the heroics of the likes of Abraham Adesanya who stayed back in the country to take on the oppressors man to man, Alfred Rewane the brave Itsekiri millionaire who lost his life battling the despot, Alex Ibru who took hot bullets for his nation and many more distinguished and Brave Patriots. You can contrast that with the now seeming greatest beneficiary of that struggle esp with the likes of Adesanya, Funsho Williams and now Dosunmu all dead - a certain Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was among the first to piantin out of the country when the heat was turned on to become an "exiled activist" - very brave esp when you consider how he now loves this country!
RIP to the departed.

Foreign: Texas Man Dies From Stings By Killer Bees.

A Texas man died after being attacked by a swarm of Africanized honeybees, sometimes called "killer bees." Larry Goodwin, 62, was driving a tractor near his home south of Waco when he disturbed a pile of wood that contained a hive of the notoriously aggressive bees; eight people have been killed by the bees since 1990, the Waco Tribune reports. "You can't believe how bad they are. They make me want to get out of this business," Allen Miller, owner of Bees Be Gone, who later destroyed the hive, told the Tribune. "They can get up under your clothes where no other insect can go," Miller said. "In a hive of ordinary European bees, about 10 percent will attack if the hive is threatened, but with African bees, all of them attack you."

In Over 30 Years, Ibadan Gets New Market [Video]

The Oyo state government appears set to transform petty and street trading to a more dignifying business with the provision of neighbourhood markets in various parts of the state.

The construction of over 1,000 shops located at the former Scouts’ camp site, Challenge area in Ibadan-the state capital, has almost been completed and will be opened for use in the next few days.

This is reportedly the first major market that will be constructed in the ancient city in over three decades. The last market was constructed in 1980.

You don't need space travel, super computers, etc to sell garawa of garri, ata rodo, shombo, alubosa, and tomato. You need to keep it simple for simple maintenance.
