The death of Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, to others is celebration while others are in pains. Born 83 years ago, on July 25, 1930, Mr. Bayero was appointed Emir on October 22, 1963. He was a former Nigerian ambassador to Senegal. His father, Abdullahi Bayero, also reigned as Emir for 27 years. Ado Bayero is the Emir of Kano and the son of Abdullahi Bayero, the former emir, who reigned for 27 years. Muhammadu Sanusi who was Ado Bayero's half-brother ruled after their father from 1953-1963. Following his dethronement in 1963, Muhammadu Inuwa ruled only for three months. After his death, Ado Bayero ascended the throne in October 1963. Bayero is one of the longest-serving emirs in the emirate's history.
Celebration is not anything easy to be found in the camp of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s the erstwhile controversial governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, who is actually saddened and unsatisfied as the Emirship slipped off their hand. All the hue and cry over who succeeds the Emir after his death has been settled long ago following the agreement the Late Emir entered with Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s father, Muhammadu Sanusi who ruled for only ten (10) years before he was dethroned. The Emir and Sanusi's father are brothers. The former CBN governor is the Emir's nephew and the supposed next Emir if the agreement entered by the two brothers has went well as planned. While the late Bayero was working to retain the Emirship in his family; Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was fighting to wrestle that off their shoulder.
Ado bayero promised his brother that if he dies before his 50th anniversary on the throne he will pass the kingship to his brother's first son which happens to be Sunusi and if he outlives 50 years on the throne, his own son will take over. Late Bayero was attacked a few days to his 50th anniversary by the suspected Boko Haram insurgent. The attacked was widely perceived as the handiwork of Sanusi’s camp by the people of Kano who believed Sanusi pre planned the attempted murder. Following the intrigues and suspense during the Emir’s 50th Anniversary, a source in the palace said Late Bayero mysteriously disappeared and appeared again in his room all to live to celebrate his 50th Anniversary and retain the kingship in his family. He successfully celebrated his 50th anniversary last year now his first son will be the next Emir.
The big dream and hope of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi being the next emir of Kano is dashed.
